You're Jovian On Shoegaze

Hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, shoegaze band You're Jovian are about to release their new record They Were Selected And Divided via Funny/Not Funny Records. Third Outing caught up with the band for quickfire Q&A.
You're Jovian! What a name. What does shoegaze mean to you?
It's a very broad term. I believe Wikipedia lists it as a motionless style while staring at the floor. I'll agree with that however, to me, shoegaze has many more elements to it. It can be poppy too. Stereolab comes to mind and even Deerhoof's La Isla Bonita has a shoegaze element to me. It can be multifaceted if executed properly.

What kind of records have you been spinning whilst making the new record?
I've been listening to a lot of Guided by Voices, the Unicorns Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone and the Breeders Last Splash. There's too much to list. Also making this record has spanned over a couple years but everything I listen to can directly influence me in some way and show me something that I could try.

Last one, is there a story which epitomises You're Jovian's spirit?
There's no story that really embodies the band unfortunately. Well. Maybe it's that every Trader Joes we pass on tour Ana, our bass player, wants to stop and buy produce. By the end of tour usually there are gnats and it seems bad in the van. Same goes for our drummer, every Sheetz gas station we pass he wants a sheetzcuit.
