'We aren't a band that comes on and makes everyone head bang for 45 minutes'
- Velvet Morning
The band started as just my songs and to an extent we still do play my songs but it’s a bit more collaborative of the minds within the band now and it doesn't really feel like they're mine any more which I enjoy. We are not a band that comes on and makes everyone head bang for 45 five minutes. I would like to think the people who like us like is for the rhythm and melody and enjoy listening to music. About the recording process, it is me doing some demos and then that will give me an idea of which ones I take into the studio properly and waste all my money on!
Well we have started a night in our home town called Pork Promotions in which we are putting on bands like Younghusband, The Proper Ornaments and Black Market Karma as well as radio show podcasts and album reviews. Also, our début LP coming out June 19 and we are going on a UK tour from June 17--28 going through Manchester, Glasgow, London, Nottingham, and more. We are ending the tour at our home towns summer festival on the beach called Leigh Folk Festival which I am looking forward to.
3rd Opinion: These days, it seems like a lot of bands label themselves as psychedelic to be part of some kind of trend. Luckily Velvet Morning don't do this. Velvet Morning are part of an upcoming generation of musicians who create new with the old, taking music to another level. Their sound is more Syd Barrett than The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but then so it should given the dreamy and melodic music. Velvet Morning are the kind of band clearly influenced by all genres of music, from 60's Japanese garage girl groups to Oasis or Conan Mockasin, but it's not an influence which is regurgitated till the cows come home and The Beatles themselves wave the copyright. It's a positive step away from the influences and towards a refreshing new movement in the world of guitars and psyche. Catch these boys live, and though you won't bang your head for 45 minutes, you might end up having a really good time!
