Heaven smile is New York singer songwriter Daniel Moro where folk music meets minimalism. Take it away...
'Heaven Smile is something that I felt I had to do. I found writing songs to be the most cathartic thing to invest my emotional energy in. I think that songs, for the most part, are the only places where my feelings are truly at home. The things I am comfortable with writing songs about are not things I would openly talk to someone about, for fear of rejection or just fear in general. The inspiration for my songs are taken almost exclusively from trying to make sense of things that keep me up at night and things that keep me alive during the day. I try my best to make sense of things as others do and I just find the song writing medium to be the most effective.
I think the biggest driving force behind most of the themes lyrically are derived from youth and childhood. In a big way, I try to keep myself as the sun-bleached boy I was 15 years ago in my music. I think too many people start to think about what they "should" or are "expected" to become once they hit a certain age and dive in to the rat race head first, without retaining any of the tenderness of their younger years. I don't think people should start dropping out of life and flying kites, but I just can't stand to see such essential human qualities go to the grave for money. The spirit of youth is something that longs for itself, just as love may.
The biggest success I could hope to achieve with my song writing is for someone to connect with it in a truly meaningful way; for it to act as their friend. If it could be the last thing that helps someone in some desperate time then my job is done'.
The 3rd opinion: Heaven Smile is the kind of artist we love to write about, because he is just simply that: an artist. Heaven Smile represents the frustrating yet beautiful part of a music reviewers life, when you hear an artist who should be making music more people should be listening to, but somehow not everything has quite yet come together. Put the man Dan Moro with a professional who can package his work, display album art which looks less like a Microsoft office 98 template, as well as using social media to his advantage, then Heaven Smile would be a household artist. But then this is part of Heaven Smile's magic.
