Fucked Up guitarist Young Guv released a great record last year entitled Ripe 4 Luv. We caught up with the main man Ben Cook to talk about 2015, his plans, movies, beers and what the world will be like in 30 years time. Should be a weird one to start the year with! On y va...
3rd: Ben Cook AKA Young Guv how are you? We're going to review the year. First off, how has it been for you in 2015?
Young Guv: 2015 has been a strange and confusing transitional year.
This year marks the release of your record Ripe 4 Luv. How important was it for you to do your own thing?
It's important for me to continuously and constantly express myself in some form or another. I'm super thankful Slumberland were on bored to release Ripe 4 Luv. I could not have thought of a better home for the record, and the project. While I'm also up to something its also important for me to involve other people at all points along the way. I like bouncing from thing to thing, place to place and person to person.
Give us 3 words which best describe the record for you?
Chimp. Pop. Hits.
There is a track we particularly like, Crawling Back To You. It's true power pop. Tell us more about the song?
I co-wrote this one with Mark Fosco, and it started out with him in the park with an acoustic and I heard him playing something as how most of the songs we collabo'd on went, and I was like "play that again" and then basically the song wrote itself. It was just the verse melody and then some loose melodic gibberish with the guitar strummed into my phone and the little idea sat there for quite some time. I always remembered it and it was turned into something special in the studio. All the emo slide guitar in the intro and outro were played in one take but sound so perfect. I just filmed a video for this song, it'll be out soon. Starring a 10 year old kid named Rex.

October 2015 was Back To The Future day. How do you think the world will be in 30 years?
I think there will be people who choose to go with the flow of evolving with technology and turning themselves into cyborgs even more, like literally. And then there will be a mass of people who refuse this kind of stuff and disconnect and maybe try and regenerate the earth around them, if it's not too late. Oh and also a grey area of people who want both. Air will be sold in stores, and water will cost 50$ a bottle. But that's just obvious!
Give me your top 3 records of the year?
Erykah Badu Phone Down, No Warning Friends In High Places, Chopped & Screwed Alice In Chains by Arthur Rizk, all 3 of those Bieber bangers obviously, Fucked Up Our Own Blood.
Who's the best sportsman of the year?
Have you seen Star Wars yet? The movie you like the most in 2015?
Nah, I dont think I care about Star Wars. I honestly can't remember all the movies I saw this year because I was so "f****n baked". But there was a lot. I like going to the movies.
2015 was great but what's 2016 hold for you ?
Fucked Up, Young Guv, No Warning. Releasing some low key homie records on Bad Actors. Travelling and continuing to receive inspiration and guidance from new places and good people.
