Breakfast MUFF are a three-piece punk band from Glasgow who are soon to release their much anticipated seven track record Rainbow Yawn. They say it’s "shambolic, sometimes beautiful and always brilliant". With the record set to be released on the 19th of December, let’s find out…
3rd: Tell us about your music and the band. How it started, and where it will end up?
Breakfast MUFF: Initially Simone and Eilidh met through a course at Green Door Studios and started the band. A while after that Cal joined, just before the first gig, and that’s when we wrote the majority of the songs. We are influenced by quite a lot of things, like cartoons and stuff, or Orange Juice or music that has no structure. We just want to tour lots and put out lots of music, that’s about it.
Rainbow Yawn is the title of the new record. What's your favourite part of the record?
I think it’s maybe a little more messed up than the first album in some ways, but we’re happy with it. Our favourite part of it is the art by Kate Gallagher! She is amazing and we’re so happy with how it turned out.
We describe you as a punk band or a band with punk values. What was the punkiest moment of Breakfast MUFF to date?
Yeah I guess…one time Simone ended up calling out this horrible, sexist guy who performed before us on stage. Don’t think he was too happy about it but who cares to be honest.
"In Glasgow it’s really rainy so everyone seeks shelter in the gigs…"
Outside of Breakfast MUFF you guys have so much going on. Are there other projects we can expect?
Yeah a few, Rapid Tan, Jealous Girlfriend, Spinning Coin, Mary Column, Youngstrr Joey.
There is so much music going on. What do you think makes Glasgow an attractive city for musicians?
Just because it’s a really lively scene with a good sense of community, it’s really nice to be a part of. Also it’s really rainy so everyone seeks shelter in the gigs…
Back to Breakfast MUFF, is there a story which epitomises you and the music?
At our first gig we were totally shambolic, like we were so unprepared. We ended up turning up with no drum sticks. Someone lended us some in the end and when they asked us how many we needed and we were like “umm…2”…we barely knew any of the songs but it was a beautiful time.
