Lance Bangs Just Got Born: the Feature
By Keith Beckett
Lance Bangs just got born! The band formerly known as Collin Thibodeauxx have just left the building and have been replaced by a new, updated version of what could be one of the best sounds to come out of Richmond, VA. Getting tired of using his own name, Colin and Co are about to embark on a summer of pure noise, starting with the release of the new track Lance Bangs #1 Single Released On 4/20.
"The style is the same" claim Lance Bangs. It's still upbeat. Fuzzed. Indie Rock. But something has changed from the old days. Lance Bangs got born and so a little twist in their music has revealed. It's a sly one, but it's there. We think it's called unity, harmony in music, or something like that. When you compare the new Lance Bangs track to the old Colin Thibodeauxx releases, take the last split EP release Cat/Grandpa, for example, the tunes have always been good but the style jumps about. Its seems that with the new release of the incredibly titled Lance Bangs #1 Single Released On 4/20, there's somewhat more harmony between the band. Take a listen and compare...
"Lance fucking Bangs. Named after Lance Bangs".
Both tracks are great, don't get us wrong. But the new release has more to offer, doesn't it? And it's truly difficult to put your finger on why. Perhaps there is something to a name change, and perhaps with that the group have excelled themselves. Listening to the new release Lance Bangs have added a style dimension to the music. The simple drum patterns, the relaxed guitars, the off-mic vocals. It just seems cooler, and when the fuzz comes in at the choruses and bridges it matches the style already laid down by the beginnings of the song. It's the beginnings of a band who have always sounded great live and will now replicate that further on record.
