The Britanys: 'Bang bang'
The Britanys are a Brooklyn based three-piece with a penchant for catchy hooks bathed in a gritty sound. They released their first EP It’s Alright nine months ago and have followed it up with the recently released new single Want To Be.
'If we were in Kansas we would be singing about what we were getting into there, so I'd definitely say that Brooklyn has it's impression on the music. As far as standing out, we just let the music speak for itself. It might be a place that's a little saturated with bands, but all we worry about is putting out quality music and putting on the best shows that we can because'.
Being from Brooklyn is somewhat a double-edged sword. On the one hand people fish where the fish are, but on the other, do too many cooks spoil the broth? Whichever idiom you arbitrarily take to make your mind up on that one, The Britanys seem not to care, preferring to focus on the music – as they probably should.
These guys have some of the most energetic and pumped up drums their side of the Brooklyn Bridge – Steele Kratt sounds like he’s trying to hit the bottom side of the snare through the top. This, coupled with Lucas Long’s voice snarling over the top of the tight, distorted guitars and Gabe Schulman’s thumping bass gives them some often tense, punchy energy. Bang bang indeed.
On their best songs The Britanys are absolutely pumping, and if they can bottle that energy and still manage to tell all their different kinds of stories then they could really kick on to produce some more brilliant stuff.
