Earlier in the month Third Outing released the news that Paper Bison are to release a new record (digitally) this May 23rd. Here are the New Orleans group to tell us why we should go Paper Bison this year...
This new EP is a reflection of the 90's revival and post-grunge scene that’s happening right now in New Orleans. We were going to a lot of those shows, taking in the whole vibe, and it kind of wove its way into our songwriting. This record is much darker and noisier than our previous release, both sonically and lyrically. It deals with feelings of change, which in retrospect is fitting.
'Anyone Else' is also different for us as the entire design process was done in collaboration with a friend James Van Camp, a talented graphic designer here in town. I approached him for our t-shirt design. He ended up doing everything for us, from the CD jackets to the poster inserts. His whole thing is having consistent themes throughout his design projects, and I think he did a phenomenal job with this EP.
The Third Opinion: Usually we spend this time writing about how we feel about certain musicians and where we think the band's direction should lead. But with Paper Bison we don't think this is necessary. It's simply thoughtful music. Time has been taken to solidify their dynamics, and between the staccato guitar they have beans. For Americans reading that means 'panash'...a better word? It means they are sorted. For an exclusive listen to the album, follow here: Rearranged is a real cracker, as are the other 6 tracks. Think early 2010's British indie, think good times.
